Matteo and I went to his first playgroup on Tuesday. We went at the end of the day when things were winding down and I'm told it wasn't very busy. That was perfect for us. Matteo and I stayed mostly in the baby area and Matteo listened to the stories being told and circle, taking place in the background. He seemed to want to go over at one point so we did, but then proceeded to climb back into my lap. Not sure how I feel about playgroups....while I know eventually Matteo will appreciate having others to play with, not sure if this kind of busy group is what I feel comfortable with. I know eventually he'll be in school and be introduced to all kinds of children so this would be good but somehow I felt uncomfortable being there....Perhaps it was my protective mother coming to the fore and watching Matteo, who was so tiny, amidst all the other bigger kids. We will of course try it again, not daily, but maybe once a week for now....here are some photos to record the first event..as you will see Matteo loved the mirror and it was fun to have "twins" for a bit of time....
Ben's first group was a Kindermusik class. 5 or 6 kids, all similar age and really engaging for both ben and i. Maybe something with a predictable group size and structure to the hour???
Thanks B. I think that is what I felt uncomfortable with so yes maybe something smaller and more structured....Matteo does love music....how old was Ben for the kindermusik?? I'll look into seeing what's available here...thanks so much!
He went to the "our Time" level just before he turned 18 months and loved it. There is an earlier level called "Our Village" I think for lap babies, crawler and early walkers...birth to 18 months. It seemed a bit pricy at the time but came with reading books, harmonicas, a percussion toy, 2 full length cd's of every song from the series and an activity book. worth every penny.
We didn't go until the boys were 14 months, and I remember feeling the same way... even now that playgroup is generally too crowded for them (but our other 2 really enjoy it). I wouldn't spend money on a group until he is closer to 18 months, he doesn't need anything structured before then. Come hang out here more! And soon it will be park weather, he will love exploring all our parks!
