Celebrating a milestone with a sticker....or two...

Today when I picked up Matteo from daycare and we were about to leave, one of his caregivers came up to me with a huge smile on her face.  She told me she wanted to share the great news that today Matteo spent all day in big boy underwear and did not have any accidents. He woke up dry from his nap and used the potty each time he needed to.  She was thrilled for him and he was proud of himself too...and got a sticker for the achievement, actually two stickers as he lost the one they had given him earlier, and she was so excited she wanted him to have another one.

When we got home he was also in his underwear.  We are still using pullups for longer trips as well as diapers overnight and have a ways to go on that, but the last few weeks showed some regression with the potty training with all the changes that were taking place.  During the last few days we were getting back on track and again as today showed Matteo is doing super well.  I can officially say and record that today during our daylight hours was the first full day in underwear.

Matteo is getting more and more active. He has gone from trying to hide behind pillows to totally dismantling the couch pillows and enjoying their comforts on the floor.  As you can see in this photo, taken yesterday, he is very proud of wearing underwear and I can tell by how he plays that he enjoys the freedom that they bring. I'm sure they feel great after having to wear diapers.

I just love the stage he is at now.  While there is challenging behaviour...multiple tantrums if he doesn't get his way...and very very loud, and not my favourite part of mothering, yet he is learning so much and maturing so much.  His vocabulary is still strong and we are slowly moving more and more, to longer sentences, but it is his sense of humour that I love the most.  We have special "jokes" that only we understand and I could have Matteo laughing for  a long time.  When I came back from the kitchen to discover his new game with the couch pillows, he had me laughing for a long time too!! While the time I shared with Matteo as a baby at the moment is a bit of a blur, I truly hope to savour these days and hope I remember them for a long time and of course also hope they move very slowly......
